After my wild time in Kuala Lumpur, I decided to make another detour. Ross, Sammy, and Alessa, were all headed to Cameron Highlands on Sunday, I however, was scheduled to remain in Kuala Lumpur until Wednesday. But after some convincing from my new friends, I figured, what the hell, and so I decided to just change my plans and go with them. So we all hopped on a bus and made our way four hours north to Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. I had no idea what to expect when I decided to come with Ross, Sammy, and Alessa because I had never heard of this place but they said it was "cool", so I took their word for it. Boy, were they wrong!
We arrived in the Highlands sometime in the mid-afternoon and checked directly into our hostel. Luckily for us, the town is not very big and our hostel was literally just across the street. It was called De Cameron Hostel and besides the free breakfast every morning, the hostel was nothing special. After we checked in, we decided to start our adventure by taking a nice long, and I mean long, hike. It wasn't too hard of a hike, but when you get lost and start wondering off for a couple extra hours, an easy hike can turn into a hard hike very fast. When we reached the peak, we came across this middle-aged Malaysia man who was sitting on a rock, playing the guitar, and trying to catch butterflies. He was wearing flip flops, and I thought, no way he hiked this mountain wearing flip flops...but he probably did, typical Malaysian style. I would go on and on and tell you about all the "cool stuff" we did in Cameron Highlands but, to be honest, it was not cool at all. Besides hiking, we went to a tea plantation where we tried some fresh Malaysian tea, we went and saw the most pathetic waterfall you will ever see in your life, and we tried our luck eating some exotic Malaysian cuisine. The one thing I will actually miss about the Cameron Highlands is the time spent with my new friends, Ross, Alessa, and Sammy. We may not have known each other for a very long time, but in the short amount of time that we spent together, I can honestly say we all became good friends. So as we all head our separate ways, we will always be able to think back and reflect on the awesome memories we made in Kuala Lumpur and the Cameron Highlands and maybe one day, one day we all will meet again. Safe travels my friends and hopefully we will see each other soon.
As for me, I am off to Bangkok, Thailand to begin my teacher training, meet up with an old friend named Brogan, and to see all that Bangkok has to offer!
